Home Theater Tips
Practically every household in North America now has its own home theater, or at least a theater-quality entertainment system. But any Canadian home theater owner will tell you that home theater design isn’t simple—it takes some tech-savvy and a lot of planning to get your home theater off the ground. If you’re building your first home theater, here are some home theater design tips to help you get started.
Block out ambient light. A good home theater should be completely dark when the door is closed. Ambient light causes glare and reduces the contrast of your home theater screen. If you don’t have any windowless rooms, get a thick, dark drape from a Canadian home theater supply store and cover up the openings.
Use two subwoofers. Most Canadian home theater setups involve a single subwoofer placed anywhere on the floor. However, recent research has showed that optimal bass can be achieved with two subwoofers: one each at the midpoint of the front and rear walls.
Organize your wiring. Home theater wiring tends to be messy and complicated. In a typical Canadian home theater, one would just run the wires under the carpet, but that’s a bad idea. The wires will just gather dust and put up with more physical wear, which can affect your audio quality. A better idea would be to run your wires on top of the wall along the ceiling, or better yet, get a wireless home theater system.
