Home Theater Screens

When it comes to home theaters, buyers tend to go for the biggest screen their money can buy. But that’s not always a good idea—the first rule in buying a home theater TV is that bigger isn’t always better. Read on to find out why and learn more about choosing home theater screens for your room.

Home theater screen size should be proportional to your room. If it’s a small back room, you may have problems finding a good viewing distance and viewing angle. Likewise, a small TV in a large home theater will leave lots of space unusable, since chairs have to be placed close enough for a good view. Most Canadian home theater rooms work best with a 50-inch screen.

You should also consider screen resolution, or the size and quality of the images displayed. A larger resolution allows your screen to display sharper and clearer images. Common resolutions include 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x720. This should be in proportion with your screen size; the latter two resolutions are considered standard for Canadian home theater sytems.

If you don’t have the budget for a large flat screen, a home theater projector may be a good alternative. Projectors give you the same screen size as most large-screen TVs, but they cost around half as much and take up a lot less space. Most Canadian home theater shops offer projector packages that come bundled with projector screens.
