Home Theater Receivers
The home theater receiver is the central processing point of a home theater system. It receives signals from all your components, decodes and processes them as needed, and sends them back to the right speakers for playback. The terms audio-video receiver and ‘surround sound receiver’ are used interchangeably because it multiple signals. A typical Canadian home theater receiver has at least five layers of processing, including those from the surround speakers.
Besides signal processing, amplification is also a key function of home theater receivers. Most models are built with a pre-amp, which gives the audio signal an initial power boost. This allows iPods and other audio players to connect to the system and be played on multi-channel speakers without losing sound quality. This is particularly useful for Canadian home theater systems that play a lot of music from different audio sources.
When functioning as AV receivers for videos, home theater receivers work twice as hard: they have to process audio and video signals at the same time, and send them to the speakers so that they are played back simultaneously.
Home theater receiver sets often have complex installation requirements. You have to integrate all your components into one device and test them both individually and as a whole. If you’re not familiar with home theater components, we recommend getting your Canadian home theater dealer to install it for you to avoid costly mistakes.
