Home Theater Layout
Keep your room size in mind.
Most Canadian home theater rooms are big enough for a 7.1 surround sound system, but a 5.1 or 2.1 system will need a different positioning plan. In a smaller room, it’s important to keep the right distance between speakers to keep the sound from overpowering the video.
Achieve proper viewing distance.
Proper viewing distance should be followed regardless of room size, so make sure your screen is proportional to your floor area. As a general rule, viewing distance should be three times the size of the screen. Seats can be placed up to 30 degrees from the middle; beyond that, you usually get color distortion and other viewing problems.
Follow speaker setup instructions.
Home theater speaker placement can make or break your home theater system. Most Canadian home theater systems come with setup instructions and positioning guides. If you’re not familiar with the wiring, it’s best to have it professionally installed by your home theater dealer. You’ll usually be offered an installation service after you buy your speakers.
