Do It Yourself Home Theater
When you’re putting a home theater together, one of your first decisions is whether to get professional help or do it all yourself. The latter will definitely save you some labor costs, but it takes a lot more work. A do-it-yourself home theater requires a lot of planning, and often, a bit of technical knowledge.
The first step in building your own home theater is selecting an appropriate room. Most Canadian home theater systems are located in the basement because it offers natural soundproofing and blocks out most of the outdoor light. However, if you have a windowless room in a low-traffic area, it’s also a good place to start.
Investing in home theater equipment is also an important step. A large flat screen and a good speaker system are usually central to Canadian home theater setups. Once you’ve picked the right AV equipment, you’ll also need a receiver, media player, or home theater PC to control your system. These three should take up most of your budget; the rest should go into accessories, furniture, and room treatments.
You’ll also need to decide whether to install the system yourself or have it done by your Canadian home theater dealer. Simple wiring mistakes can result in costly errors that can be hard to correct. If you’re not familiar with A/V electronics, it’s highly recommended that you get professional home theater installation, even if it’s a little expensive.
