Cheap Home Theater Seating

The typical Canadian home theater owner will spend the bulk of his budget on a high-quality screen and speaker system before looking into home theater seats. Usually, after spending thousands on AV equipment, spending more than $500 on seating seems over-the-top. But comfortable seating is just as important as good audio and video, and should be just as much a part of your budget. If you’re looking to save some money, here are some cheap home theater seating solutions to help you out.

The most popular source of discount home theater seating is the refurbished market. Refurbished seats are basically used seats that have been restored to factory conditions (i.e. good as new). To qualify as refurbished, a product must be approved by the original manufacturers themselves, so you’re assured of reasonable quality. Not all Canadian home theater shops offer refurbished gear, so try looking online. Just make sure you get a good dealer, and don’t forget to ask about product warranties.

For those on a really tight budget, used home theater seats may be the cheapest option—they can cost less than one-third as much as brand-new units. Unlike refurb seats, however, they’re not manufacturer-approved and quite often will show signs of wear and tear. If there’s any repair to be done, it’s also your responsibility. Also, you may have a hard time finding used seats in Canadian home theater shops—it’s easier to buy directly from the owners.
