Canadian Home Theater Guide
Welcome to Canadian Home Theater.com, your online source for articles, guides, tips and advice when it comes to home theater in Canada.
Home movies no longer mean sitting on your living room couch with an old-school picture tube TV - nowadays many Canadians enjoy their movies with a large LCD or plasma flat screen, surround sound, while others still go 'all out' with a front projector in a dedicated entertainment room complete with luxury seating.
But home theaters come at a price - not only can a complete setup cost thousands of dollars, they also call for some tech-savvy and complex installation procedures.
Given so many choices, where do you start?

Your first step should be setting a budget for your home theater. The average Canadian home theater costs between $10,000 and $15,000 and typically includes a large screen (50 inches or more), a five-way speaker system, a DVD or multimedia player, and home theater furniture. Naturally, you can set your budget higher or lower depending on your preferences but the above numbers make a good starting point.
For first-time buyers, an all-in-one home theater system may offer the best value. Many Canadian home theater stores offer full packages ranging from basic to advanced, so you’re sure to find one that suits your budget. Just make sure they’re still high-quality and that all the features you want will be provided.
Most people will just hit a home theater store and buy the high-end gear, but that’s just the start of it. It’s also important to install your home theater setup properly in a room that is at least somewhat acoustically desirable.
If you don’t have much experience with home theater systems, you can have your Canadian home theater dealer install it for you for an extra fee. Or better yet, check out our Guides to the left to help you get started on everything from Gear, to acoustics, construction, and Decor!
